Blain, Union Theological Seminary, states he is against secession and hopes that "a merciful Provience may yet avert" war. He hopes Virginia will stay "cool & decided" and that the "Godless, heaven defying states [such] as South Carolina" will not prevail or "we are doomed to pass thro. one of the bloodiest wars that ever cursed any land." He finds South Carolina's course "dishonorable and unjust." He will fight for Virginia but not for South Carolina.

William Logan Fisher (1781-1862) purchased "Belfield," a large house in Germantown, Pennsylvania, from painter Charles Wilson Peale in 1826. He gave the house to his oldest daughter, Sarah Logan Fisher (1806-1891) and her husband, William Wister (1803-1891).
